Advertising and Commercial Relationships Disclosure

Last updated: April 2026

This document was prepared for informational purposes. SignalLedger is not a law firm and this does not constitute legal advice. We recommend consulting qualified legal counsel for specific legal questions relating to your circumstances.

1. Why This Disclosure Matters

Transparency is one of the most important commitments SignalLedger can make to its readers. The financial publishing landscape contains many websites that are funded, in whole or in part, by the very platforms they appear to independently compare, review, or recommend — without making this clear to readers. When a financial website receives payment for featuring a platform, recommending a product, or placing a platform higher in a comparison table, and fails to disclose this, readers may place unwarranted trust in what they believe to be impartial editorial content.

We believe readers deserve to understand how we are funded, what commercial relationships we have, and how we protect the integrity of our editorial judgements. This Advertising Disclosure sets out those facts plainly.

2. How SignalLedger Is Funded

SignalLedger is a free-to-access educational website. We do not charge readers for access to our content. Our operating costs are met through commercial revenue, which may include the following sources:

2a. Affiliate Commissions

We participate in affiliate programmes operated by some of the platforms we discuss on our Website. When a reader clicks a link from our Website to a third-party platform and subsequently takes a qualifying action — such as registering for an account, completing an application, or making a deposit — we may receive a commission payment from that platform. This commission is paid by the platform, not by the reader, and does not increase the cost of any product or service to you.

The presence of an affiliate relationship with a platform does not mean we have endorsed that platform as suitable for any particular reader. Affiliate relationships exist across many platforms we cover, including both those we assess positively and those where we identify material limitations or concerns.

2b. Display Advertising

We may display advertisements from third-party advertising networks on some pages of our Website. These advertisements are served by the network and are distinct from our editorial content. Where display advertising is present, it will be visually distinguished from editorial content.

2c. Sponsored Content

On occasion, we may publish content that is sponsored or paid for by a third party. Where any content has been created or paid for by a commercial partner, it will be clearly and prominently labelled as sponsored content at the top of the relevant page. Sponsored content is always editorially reviewed to ensure it is factually accurate and not misleading, and our editorial standards apply to sponsored content as they do to all other content.

Key point: We do not charge readers. Our content is free to access. Commercial arrangements are with platforms and advertisers, not with our readers.

3. What We Do Not Accept

To protect the integrity of our editorial output and the trust of our readers, there are specific commercial arrangements that SignalLedger does not accept under any circumstances:

  • Pay-to-play reviews: We do not accept payment from a platform in exchange for a review, assessment, or feature appearing on our Website. All platform coverage decisions are made editorially.
  • Payment to alter editorial assessments: We do not accept payment in exchange for increasing a review score, softening a negative assessment, suppressing a concern, or changing our editorial conclusion about a platform or product.
  • Payment to suppress negative findings: Where our research identifies material concerns about a platform — including regulatory issues, fee transparency problems, or complaints data — we will include those findings in our coverage regardless of any commercial relationship.
  • Commission-driven ranking manipulation: We do not rank platforms higher in comparison tables solely because they pay a higher commission rate.
  • Undisclosed commercial arrangements: Where commercial arrangements exist and are material to how a platform appears on our Website, we will disclose this. We do not conceal commercial relationships from readers.

4. How Commercial Relationships Affect Our Work

We acknowledge openly that commercial relationships could, in theory, create incentives — whether conscious or unconscious — to present affiliated platforms more favourably than the evidence warrants. This is a structural tension present in almost all advertiser-funded publishing, and intellectual honesty requires us to acknowledge it rather than simply assert it does not exist.

We manage this tension through the following mechanisms:

  • Consistent evaluation criteria: We apply the same published evaluation framework to all platforms we assess, regardless of commercial relationship. Our methodology covers fees, platform design, regulatory standing, available instruments, customer service, and other factors. Affiliate platforms receive no preferential treatment under this methodology.
  • Documented methodology: Our editorial evaluation process is documented and publicly available. This allows readers to assess whether our conclusions are consistent with our stated criteria.
  • Editorial and commercial separation: Editorial assessments are made by our editorial team. Commercial arrangements are handled separately. Our editors do not have commercial incentive structures linked to the outcomes of specific reviews.
  • Disclosure within reviews: Where a platform featured in a review or comparison table has an affiliate or commercial relationship with SignalLedger, we note this within the relevant content.

5. Platform Inclusion and Ordering

Decisions about which platforms to include in our reviews and comparisons are made on editorial grounds — primarily based on whether a platform is relevant and accessible to our target audience of UK and international readers interested in educational content about financial trading and investing.

Commercial arrangements do not determine whether a platform is included in our coverage. Platforms may be included regardless of whether we have an affiliate relationship with them, and platforms may be excluded regardless of whether they would pay a high commission.

Where platforms appear in comparison tables without a stated explicit ranking rationale, the order of presentation may reflect factors such as alphabetical ordering, user popularity data, or our assessment of overall suitability for a general audience. The absence of an explicit ranking methodology is itself disclosed within the relevant comparison page. We do not present comparison table ordering as a quality ranking unless we have applied and published a scored methodology to produce it.

6. Identifying Affiliate Links

Where links from our Website to third-party platforms are affiliate links — meaning we may receive a commission if you take a qualifying action following that click — this is noted in the relevant content. You are never under any obligation to use our affiliate links; you may navigate directly to any platform you wish to use. Using or not using our affiliate links has no effect on the price of any product or service you may choose to take up.

Commission rates vary between platforms and between affiliate programmes. The commission rate available from a platform does not affect the editorial assessment we give to that platform. We do not include platforms solely or primarily because of their commission rates, and commission rates are not a factor in our scoring methodology.

7. Editorial Independence Statement

SignalLedger's editorial team retains full independence in its assessment and coverage decisions. Positive commercial relationships do not produce positive editorial assessments. Platforms with which we have affiliate relationships have received, and will continue to receive, neutral or negative assessments where our research justifies such assessments.

Negative findings — including regulatory concerns, high fees, poor customer service evidence, or any other material concern — are published in full regardless of whether a platform has a commercial relationship with us. The editorial team's conclusions are not reviewed or approved by our commercial team prior to publication.

Key point: Our commercial arrangements are with platforms; our editorial obligations are to readers. These are kept separate, and the editorial team's independence is not negotiable.

8. Changes to Commercial Relationships

Our commercial relationships evolve over time as new platforms are added to our coverage and as existing affiliate relationships begin or end. We will update this Advertising Disclosure when significant changes occur. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page reflects the date of the most recent material update.

If you have a specific question about whether a particular platform featured on our Website has a commercial relationship with us, you are welcome to ask — please contact us and we will respond honestly.

9. Regulatory Context

Affiliate marketing in the financial services sector is subject to regulatory oversight in the UK. We are aware of our obligations under applicable advertising standards, FCA financial promotion rules to the extent they apply to educational publishers, and the requirements of the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) regarding disclosure of commercial relationships in online reviews. This disclosure is part of our effort to operate transparently and in compliance with applicable standards.

10. Questions

If you have any questions about our commercial relationships, how we fund our operations, or how we protect editorial independence, please contact us. We are committed to answering questions about our funding model honestly and promptly. Financial publishing transparency matters, and we welcome scrutiny.
