Our Editorial Methodology

SignalLedger publishes its research and review framework so that readers can understand exactly how our assessments are produced, what criteria we apply, and where any commercial relationships exist. Editorial independence and transparency are non-negotiable commitments, not marketing language.

Who We Are

SignalLedger is an independent digital publishing resource focused on finance education and platform comparison. Our content is produced by a small editorial team with backgrounds in financial journalism, technology research, and compliance communications.

We are not a regulated financial firm, broker, investment adviser, or signal service. We do not manage funds, provide personalised investment recommendations, or hold any financial services licence. Everything we publish is for educational and informational purposes only.

Our perspective is that of an informed editorial resource: we research platforms, assess marketing claims, explain concepts accessibly, and give readers the framework to make their own, better-informed decisions.

Editorial Independence

Editorial content on SignalLedger is produced independently of any commercial relationship. Platforms, companies, or individuals cannot pay to influence the editorial conclusions of any guide, review, or comparison article.

Where a commercial relationship exists — for example, where we receive affiliate commission if a reader signs up to a platform after clicking a link from our site — this is disclosed clearly and separately, in the relevant content and on our Advertising Disclosure page.

The existence of an affiliate relationship does not influence how we assess or describe a platform. We apply the same criteria to all platforms regardless of whether a commercial relationship exists.

Our commitment: If we discover that a platform we have reviewed materially misrepresented its offering, regulatory status, or performance claims, we will update or retract our coverage and note the change with a date stamp, regardless of whether a commercial relationship exists.

Platform Review Criteria

Every platform assessment on SignalLedger uses the same documented criteria. These are applied consistently across all reviewed products, and the weighting of each criterion is the same whether or not a commercial relationship exists.

Our review criteria are organised into five categories:

Category What We Assess Weight
Regulatory Status Whether the platform holds appropriate regulatory authorisation; which jurisdiction; how clearly it is disclosed. High
Fee Transparency Whether all fees, spreads, commissions, and withdrawal charges are clearly disclosed before account opening. High
AI Claim Verifiability Whether AI-related claims are supported by independently verifiable evidence; how clearly limitations are disclosed. High
Risk Disclosure Quality Whether risk disclosures are prominent, specific, and accurate — not buried in small print or contradicted by marketing language. Medium-High
Educational Resources Quality, depth, and accuracy of educational materials provided by the platform to its users. Medium
Usability & Support Platform navigation, account management, customer support quality, and accessibility. Medium

Our review conclusions describe how a platform performs across these criteria. We do not produce a single composite score, as we believe reducing a nuanced assessment to a number can be misleading. Instead, we provide category-level observations and a clear narrative summary.

How We Assess AI Claims

The phrase "AI-powered" is used extensively and inconsistently across the trading and investment technology sector. SignalLedger applies a specific framework when assessing any platform that makes AI-related claims.

Our AI Assessment Questions

  • What specific AI technique is being used? Machine learning, natural language processing, algorithmic execution, pattern recognition — these are distinct. Vague "AI" language without specifics is noted.
  • What data is the model trained on, and how current is it? Model performance is inseparable from data quality.
  • Are backtesting results independently verifiable? We look for methodology transparency, including treatment of slippage, commissions, and survivorship bias.
  • How are risks managed? A well-designed AI system should have defined risk parameters; uncontrolled AI execution is a significant risk flag.
  • What does the platform say when things go wrong? Platforms that clearly describe failure scenarios and limitations score higher on transparency than those that only highlight upside scenarios.
  • Is the AI optional or compulsory? Platforms that allow users to opt out of AI-driven features or to exercise manual control score higher on user autonomy.

Note: Where a platform makes performance claims that we cannot independently verify, we note this explicitly in the review rather than treating unverified claims as fact. This is a core principle of our editorial approach.

How We Score and Assess

We do not use numeric star ratings as our primary assessment output. We have found that composite ratings encourage readers to skip the detailed analysis — which is precisely where the important qualifications, caveats, and nuances appear.

Instead, each platform review contains:

  • A factual overview (what the platform is, who operates it, regulatory status)
  • Category-level findings against our documented criteria
  • A summary of notable strengths and notable concerns
  • A clear statement of what type of user might find the platform relevant
  • Any unverified claims or areas requiring further investigation
  • A dated "Last reviewed" timestamp

Where we assign qualitative assessments such as "Clear", "Unclear", or "Flagged", these are based on observable evidence from the platform's own public documentation, not on assumptions or hearsay.

Commercial Relationships & Advertising

SignalLedger may receive compensation in the following forms:

  • Affiliate commissions: Where a reader clicks a link to a platform and subsequently creates an account, we may receive a referral fee from the platform operator.
  • Display advertising: We may display advertising from financial technology companies. Advertisers do not influence editorial content.

All affiliate relationships and advertising arrangements are disclosed on our Advertising Disclosure page and, where relevant, within individual articles.

What we do not do: We do not accept payment to write reviews, to assign favourable descriptions, to rank a platform higher than our methodology warrants, or to withhold negative findings. If a commercial arrangement would require us to compromise editorial integrity, we decline it.

Content Accuracy and Updates

Financial regulations, fee structures, platform features, and company ownership can change. We aim to review and update content on a regular basis, with every page carrying a "Last reviewed" date where material information is time-sensitive.

Our research process includes:

  • Direct review of publicly accessible platform documentation, terms, and disclosures
  • Cross-referencing against publicly available regulatory records where relevant
  • Noting when information could not be independently verified
  • Distinguishing between information sourced from the platform itself and information sourced from third-party records

We do not rely exclusively on information provided by platform operators. Where a platform provides information that conflicts with publicly available records or that we cannot corroborate, we note the discrepancy rather than accepting the platform's version uncritically.

Corrections Policy

If we publish factually inaccurate information, we will correct it promptly and note the correction with a clear date stamp. We do not silently edit content after publication where the change is substantive.

To report an error, please use our Contact page. We review all correction requests and aim to respond within five working days.

What We Are Not

It is important to be explicit about what SignalLedger is not:

  • We are not a regulated financial adviser or investment firm.
  • We are not a broker or platform operator.
  • We do not provide personalised investment recommendations.
  • We do not sell trading signals, strategies, or subscriptions.
  • Our content does not constitute financial advice.
  • We do not guarantee the accuracy of information provided by the platforms we review.

Readers should always seek advice from a qualified, regulated financial adviser before making investment decisions. Our content is designed to help you ask better questions — not to make decisions for you.

Important: Nothing on this page or elsewhere on SignalLedger constitutes financial advice, investment advice, or a recommendation to use any financial product or service. Trading and investing involve significant risk of loss. Read our full Risk Disclaimer.
